The S2 Standard 22 starts with an all-mahogany body and set neck, and you can hear that construction immediately. There’s a natural warmth and richness to the guitar, with a full midrange and plenty of sustain. It has that smooth, vintage-inspired character that sounds great clean, but it also has enough power and definition to really come alive when an amp starts breaking up.
The PRS 58/15 LT pickups are a fantastic match for the mahogany. They have a warm, sweet quality to them, but they don’t lose clarity. The highs stay articulate, the mids have plenty of authority, and there’s enough punch to handle everything from blues and classic rock to modern overdrive tones.
The 5-way pickup selector gives the guitar a lot of tonal flexibility, so there’s no shortage of sounds available. It’s easy to move from warm, rounded neck tones to brighter, more aggressive bridge sounds, with plenty of useful combinations in between.
The PRS tremolo adds another level of expression. It feels smooth and musical, while the design is built to return to pitch reliably. It’s there when some extra movement is needed, without making the guitar feel like it’s constantly fighting to stay in tune.
And that’s really where this guitar shines: versatility.
It works beautifully plugged straight into an amp, but it also takes pedals extremely well. Whether the rig is built around a couple of overdrives or a full modern pedalboard, the S2 Standard 22 has the tonal range and clarity to work with it.
For a first serious guitar, it’s an excellent foundation. For an experienced player, it’s the kind of instrument that can easily become the go-to guitar for rehearsals, recording, and live work.
Warm mahogany tone, articulate PRS pickups, excellent sustain, a versatile 5-way switch, and a dependable tremolo—all wrapped up in one incredibly useful instrument.
If the goal is to have one guitar that can cover a lot of musical territory without feeling generic, the S2 Standard 22 is a guitar worth spending some time with.
